Hell has had enough of being down below. The damned are climbing: row upon row of imps, devils and worse pour out of the seven gates of hell and march up through the clouds, straight for the Pearly Gates.
Between them and paradise stands one angel. You. Armed with lightning, a halo and a profound lack of backup. Hold the line through all 22 circles of hell, topple the seven guardians, then face the Sardonic Wrath himself.
Do well, and Heaven will be grateful. Probably.
The classic invaders formula, turned upside down and set on fire.
Every circle sends a new horde, each uglier than the last, from the Impish Rabble to the Lava Lords.
Find the weak spot, read the glow before each attack, and survive the second half of the fight.
Drag to move. Keep touching to fire. Hold still to charge a bolt that tears down a whole column.
Free a captured angel and it fights at your side: twice the lightning, and a spare halo.
Hide behind the clouds while they last. Forks, fire, demons and your own lightning wear them away.
Purgatory, Hell or Nightmare. Each keeps its own top-10 scores.
Earn them all, from First Blood to Blackened, and climb a leaderboard for every mode.
Every note, sprite and sound made from scratch for this game. No samples. No mercy.
Every circle sends a new horde, each uglier than the last. There are 22. And they bring friends.
The lowest rung on hell’s ladder. Marches, throws pitchforks, dies in droves. Still bites.
Loves to break ranks and dive at you. Hit one mid-swoop for double points.
Hell’s middle management. Drags angels away on a glowing chain. Shoot it to set them free.
Skulks in the front row behind a riveted iron shield. Three bolts, or one charged bolt.
Held together by a seething purple seam. Kill it and it bursts into two furious mini imps.
Gnaws holes in your clouds from below. Deeper down, it breathes fire.
When it glows green, one of your victims is about to get back up. Kill it first.
Rides a dromedary at the back of the horde. When his fanfare sounds, the whole horde throws at once. Only a charged bolt can slay him.
Skims the hell-rift now and then, sneering. Worth a mystery bonus.
At the end of every third circle, a giant of its horde with a trident, a temper and a health bar. At half health, every guardian loses its temper, and its good looks.
Opens with fans of aimed pitchforks and wide sweeping sprays. Thinks he is the main event.
Adds rapid streams of forks aimed right at your halo. Subtle as a brick.
The first to roam free, in every direction. Spits out imps and bursts up through your clouds.
Adds a rain of zig-zagging forks. His wailing is worse.
Starts throwing infernal forks that can't be knocked away. Greed is good, he says.
More infernal forks, more often, and the first inverted crosses. Hungry for angels.
The last of the seven. Even more crosses, and everything his brothers did, angrier.
The Devil himself, in person. Throws everything and has a few words for you. The game is named after him. He insisted.
Tap MODE on the title screen. Each mode keeps its own high scores.
Five angels, gentler hordes, a faster charge. For the merely sinful.
Three angels. The game as it was meant to be suffered.
One angel, no extra lives, and everything faster and nastier. Good luck. No, really.
